Vitamin A Palmitate

Vitamin A is an antioxidant that aids in the removal of free radicals that cells produce.     Free radicals have been associated with premature skin aging due to sun exposure. Free radicals damage collagen (the building blocks of the skin). Vitamin A nourishes the skin, counteracts inflammations and protects cell membranes and other structures within the cells from the damage caused by free radicals. Research shows that vitamin A leads to collagen production in the dermis, which causes the middle layers to plump and retain moisture. Vitamin A should be avoided by pregnant women.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid is a naturally occurring agent and an antioxidant. Antioxidants help with skin care by freeing the skin of free radicals, which are responsible for much of the damage that we see to skin. Research update: Frankincense Essential Oil being studied for cancer treatment

Welcome to the wonderful world of Frankincense Essential Oil!

One of the main essential oils in the Just Pure range, and part of our signature blend, Frankincense has quite an exotic element to it.  Although people are familiar with the name and its use in aromatherapy, it is not a very well-known essential oil when it comes to skincare (yet!), and few people know about the amazing benefits it has to offer.

 About Frankincense

Frankincense essential oil is extracted from gum or resin from the Boswellia Carteri /Olibanum tree. The oil, has a warm, woody, sweet aroma with a hint of citrus, and is steam or CO2 distilled from the resin of the tree.

Originating from Africa, India and the Middle East, Frankincense essential oil has been found to have many medicinal benefits. During ancient times Frankincense was associated with longevity, and ancient records indicate that Frankincense was used to “treat every ill conceivable to man”. The early physicians described the properties of Frankincense as being hot, astringent, detergent and extractant.

Modern natural medicine has taken to the use of the essential oil of Frankincense. It is used for respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, catarrh, laryngitis, coughs and colds, and asthma. It is also most helpful for rheumatism, wrinkles, wounds and dry skin, and in cases of cystitis and leukorrea.

The most important effect of the essential oil may be on the nervous system. Regarded as an antidepressant, the aroma can both relax and revitalize, and can help in cases of nervous tension and exhaustion. Frankincense oil contains sesquiterpenes, which stimulate the limbic system, the hypothalamus, the pineal and the pituitary glands. The oil is now being researched for its ability to increase human growth hormone production. Further, it is considered to strengthen the immune system, which may in fact occur as a result of its uplifting properties.

New research with Frankincense has demonstrated the ability to kill cancer cells in every organ cell line on which it has been tested, while causing no harm to healthy cells. Frankincense has been shown to specifically disrupt the development of breast cancer cells, with a mention in the research that “the essential oil may be effective for advanced breast cancer”.

Back to skin care,  Frankincense also offers amazing properties and benefits for the skin. Going back in time to ancient Egypt, it was known to be used in a rejuvenate face mask. Just Pure to take part in Child Welfare Fundraising Challenge

Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse is a 100 kilometre charity walk from Cape Agulhas to Danger Point Lighthouse over 4 days. This challenging event is taken on exclusively by Ladies, mostly from the Overstrand. Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse is not a charity organisation itself, but a vehicle to raise money for registered causes. Every cent collected is handed over to the charity selected, and this year, the beneficiary of this fundraising event is: Hermanus Child Welfare!

This event will be raising funds to protect the safety and wellbeing of children in the Overberg, who are in need of a home for special needs, both physically and mentally.

Just Pure is delighted to be one of the sponsors of this initiative. The 60 Ladies that will be taking on this ardous walk, will be spoilt with a few ‘Just Pure luxuries’ during this tough 4-day event.

When Just Pure was invited to be a sponsor of this challenge, we grabbed the opportunity to be more actively involved, and Michelle Koen (Marketing and Sales), never saying no to an adventure, didn’t think twice about taking part in this event and worthy fundraising cause.

The 2012 Lighthouse walk, taking place from Thursday 29 March to Sunday 01 April, will be the 7th annual event, and last year, it raised R171,171.00 for SOFCA and a further R15,350.00 for Izibusizo Children’s Home. The goal this year, is to both raise the bar and the spirit, and hand over R200,000.00 to Hermanus Child Welfare,

How can YOU help?

Each person participating requires to raise an amount of at least R2000 to take part. The more we raise, the bigger the cheque at the end of the event, and the larger the smiles of the children when their new Home can be built! We are sending out a request to ask you to open your hearts, and your wallets (even for only R20 or R50!), and help us raise a record amount this year!!

World Cancer Day is officially taking place every year on the 4th of February, and on this day, the entire world is urged to unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic.

The theme chosen for World Cancer Day 2012 is “Together we are stronger”. Not sure how you can help? The first, and most important thing you can do is to be informed about the choices you and your loved ones make.

The most effective weapon against cancer = knowledge. Considering that one in four individuals may be affected by the disease during their lifetime, it is essential to realise how powerful knowledge is in terms of risk reduction, prevention and early detection.

Christmas Shopping Madness? Here’s some guidelines!

Christmas is officially less than a month away!! If that makes you nervous, I can assure you – you are not the only one!

We all have our own traditions and ways of doing things over the Festive Season. A special time when people come together and enjoy some of the best things in this life – good food and good company! And if you are spending it in this beautiful country of ours, you will also enjoy long and glorious days of Summer!

For many, Christmas is also a time of giving. Known as the Silly Season, where trolleys are loaded with all things nice! Buying gifts for all the kids, cousins, aunts and uncles, friends, and not forgetting your brother’s new girlfriend (whom you have only met once…), becomes quite the challenge, and if you don’t plan beforehand more or less who you are buying for and a rough idea of what you want to buy, it could become a very expensive and time consuming experience!
